In a nutshell: Apple has reportedly partnered offering Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) on the development of advanced micro OLED displays at a top secret facility present in Taiwan. The tech is still a long time away from reaching consumer devices but when it does, it should result in dramatically slimmer screens with lower power constraints.
Sources briefed on the matter encouraged Nikkei Parts of asia that Apple should use the displays in upcoming increased reality devices.
As the publication explains, usually the micro OLED displays are not contributed on glass substrates like those which found in TVs and smartphones. Pretty, they are built directly onto processor wafers, the same substrates that semiconductors are made on. This means they are long thinner and smaller than traditional features and consume less power, additionally, making them ideal for use in a wearable device like an AR headset or even a joined reality device .
