Johnny then shared a quote which read: "I will find you in the morning sun and when the night is new: I'll be looking at the moon but I'll be seeing you."

Fans and friends flocked to the comments section to send their condolences to Johnny.

Kelly Brook penned: "So sorry to hear this sending you all the love in the world."

Lizzie Cundy wrote: "So very sorry."

Kate Thornton added: "So sorry for your loss x."

While a dedicated listener of Johnny's touchingly wrote: "Sorry for your loss Johnny.

"Almost a year ago I lost my Dad. I messaged you and asked if you could give him a posthumous honorary salute, which you did.

"So on behalf of myself and all the listeners, to your Dad. We salute you. Rest in peace."

And another fan said: "So sad to hear this Johnny, most will agree that although we never had the pleasure of meeting him that we felt that we all knew him through your amazing stories."

Last July, Johnny shared a sweet post to commemorate his father's 90th birthday.

Sharing a snap of the two men sitting beside each other, Johnny wrote: "Happy 90th Birthday to my Dad."

In the photo, the father and son duo were smiling at the camera as Johnny wrapped his arm around his dad.

"We share the same birthday so it's normally a two man celebration: This year it was all about my dear ol' dad.

My Dad is my hero.

"Here's to the BIG 100," he concluded the caption.

Johnny was born in North London to his dad, who was an engineer, and his mother, Fay, a psychotherapist.

Because of his father's work, when Johnny was 7, he and his family moved up the country to the Midlands.

Writing for MailOnline in piece published in 2010, Johnny recalled the move.

"When I was seven we moved to Rutland, in the Midlands, because Dad was going to run his father's factory in Nottingham," he explained.

Then, two years later in a piece published in 2012, Johnny said his dad was his hero.

Career aside, Johnny confesses that his life has moved up and down most scales. His education was divided between the exclusive Uppingham boarding school in Rutland and a North London state school.

"My life has been horribly eclectic.

"Whenever I  get down, I remember I've been through  worse," he said at the time, recalling how his education was divided between the exclusive Uppingham boarding school in Rutland and a North London state school.

Johnny went on: "My Dad is my hero.

"We lost everything and my parents split up at the same time.

"Dad could no longer afford the school fees, but I was allowed  to stay on and he was still paying them ten years later.

"It was as if I had a scholarship, even though I wasn't particularly bright!"
