The star in question is Rufus Wainwright, who recently shared that he had been mixing with rock royalty during a gala in Salzburg.

In one of the snaps he was sitting next to Sir Bob Geldof.

Rufus shot to fame with his debut self-titled album in 1998.

Known for songs like I Don't Know What It Is, and his brilliant cover of Hallelujah, the star has enjoyed an incredible career that has spanned nearly three decades.

Born in 1973, Rufus is an Canadian and American singer, songwriter, and composer.

During his time in the spotlight he has recorded eleven studio albums and numerous tracks on compilations and film soundtracks.

Rufus has also written two classical operas and set Shakespeare's sonnets to music for a theatre piece by Robert Wilson.

It's not surprising he has enjoyed a successful career as a singer, given his musical background.

Rufus is the eldest child of folk singer-songwriters Loudon Wainwright III and the late Kate McGarrigle.

His sister Martha Wainwright has also followed in their parents footsteps and is a successful singer as well.

Over the years, Rufus has enjoyed a huge amount of success which has seen the awards pour in, and also a Brit nomination in 2008.

Speaking to The Sun in 2020, we asked him what else he would like to achieve, and he said: "I would like a Grammy at some point, mainly because my dad got one and I'd like it to happen while he's still alive so we can put that to rest. A Grammy would be nice.

"I want to make a ton of money, but I do feel for the work that I put into my career . . . It would be nice not to have to work so hard as I do because it's a diminishing game.

"Hard work and the travel was easy in my 20s and 30s, but now it's harder.

"So, I just have to figure out a way to do that."

It's not always been smooth-sailing for Rufus though.

He has been very open about his troubled younger days when he struggled with drug addiction.

This included going temporarily blind after a five-day bender on crystal meth and ecstasy in 2002.

It was his friend Elton John who saved him by sending him to rehab.

He wrote the song Early Morning Madness about the darkness of addiction.

Rufus told The Sun: "I wrote it a few years ago when I was drinking at that time.

"I am now on the straight and narrow. But it was about being very hungover.

"Now, in my early middle-age, I have those moments where you get up at 5am and everything seems so mad and there is this real frightening situation.

"These anxiety moments are really profound, and I think are just going to have to be part of my life forever.

"You have to accept it. But what is lovely about it is that then you appreciate it when it's not happening."
