However, the actor was forced to withdraw from a press junket for the movie as well as skipping an intimate dinner with the movie's cast and crew yesterday evening.

Sources close to the star told The Hollywood Reporter that he became unwell during the afternoon which prompted his withdrawal from the event.

He was seen boarding a boat outside the Hotel Excelsior around 4pm where he was advised to rest amid his condition.

The Sun contacted a representative for George Clooney for comment, who responded saying: "George has been diagnosed with a sinus infection and is under doctors orders to cut back on his activities today."

He had been spotted with his wife Amal Clooney earlier in the day in which he showed no signs of discomfort.

The married couple appeared relaxed as they strolled around the Italian city.

George appears opposite Adam Sandler in the new movie, Jay Kelly.

Gushing about his co-star previously, George said of Adam: "I kept telling the cast, 'Don't call him Sand Man. Don't talk to him like he's just some goofy comedian. He's actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor'.

"Because of what his pay check is, which is doing big goofy comedies, when he does these other, beautiful, Uncut Gems kinds of movies, it reminds people of that.

"He's not just a good comedian."

Last year, while at the Venice Film Festival, George opened up about what he and Brad Pitt really earned for their movie, Wolfs.

The New York Times reported that he and Brad, 60, were both paid the astronomical amount of $35 million for their work.

However, George shut those rumors down alongside Brad.

"[It was] an interesting article and whatever her source was for our salary, it is millions and millions and millions of dollars less than what was reported," he said while at the festival.

"And I am only saying that because I think it's bad for our industry if that's what people think is the standard bearer for salaries."

"I think that's terrible, it'll make it impossible to make films," he went on.

'SOME BUMPS ALONG THE WAY'

George opened up about his salary when he was asked about his opinion on Wolfs not being released in theaters.

"Yes, we wanted it to be released [in theaters]," he said.

"We've had some bumps along the way, that happens. When I did The Boys in the Boat, we did it for MGM, and then it ended up being for Amazon and we didn't get a foreign release at all, which was a surprise."

"There are elements of this that we are figuring out. You guys are all in this too. We're all in this industry and we're trying to find our way post-Covid and everything else, and so there's some bumps along the way," the Oscar winner noted.
