SPANISH actress Verónica Echegui has died aged 42 after secretly battling cancer.
The Spanish star was rushed to hospital in Madrid on Sunday where she tragically died.



Appearing in over 30 films, she was best known for 2008 role in My Prisoner's Yard and her part in The Cold Light Of Day alongside Sigourney Weaver and Bruce Willis.
Her career spanned over 18-years and saw her star alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names including, Noel Fielding and Richard Ayoade in a 2009 Mighty Boosh spin off film, Bunny and the Bull.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez paid an emotional tribute to the actress with "immense talent and humility."
He said: "I was deeply shocked by the news of Verónica Echegui's passing, an actress with enormous talent and humility who leaves us far too young. My sincere embrace in these such difficult moments for the entire family and friends."
The Mask of Zorro star Antonio Banderas also remembered the beloved star with a post on X that read: "Today, Spanish cinema is in mourning due to the passing of Verónica Echegui.
"My condolences to her family and friends."
Argentinian actor Juan Diego Botto, known for his role in On the Fringe, said: "I'm in shock at the loss of the great actress Verónica Echegui. A huge loss for our cinema. My warmest condolences to her family and friends.
While local news hailed her as "an essential talent in Spanish cinema of the last two decades".
Fans also rushed online to share their grief and shock with many describing her as a "legend" in her field who was taken "too soon".
Verónica was born in Madrid in 1983 and made her TV debut with small roles in the series A New Life and Paco and Veva.
She later rose to fame in 2006 with a lead part in the film Yo soy la Juani which earned her a Goya Award nomination for Best New Actress.
Her last role was in the Apple TV+ series Love You To Death a rom com released earlier this year.
The Spanish Actors and Actresses Union also celebrated her contribution to cinema.
